In 1917, the industry really started to take off in Tafjord and with the construction of the first power station: Tafjord 1, a new adventure had begun. The station was complete in 1923 and supplied population and industry with electrical power for over 60 years.

In 1989 Tafjord 1 was stopped for good, and the station was rebuild into a power station museum.

In 1991, the new museum in Tafjord opened with the same machines and equipment that was used in the working period. It became a tourist attraction.
